Stephen is so talented at what he does, I cannot recommend him any higher. When I first started my lessons 6 months ago with Stephen, my singing technique was completely wrong and I was holding a lot of tension in my neck - restricting my tone and range, which I was not aware of until our first lesson. Stephen analyses your voice, posture, pronunciation and breathing and evaluates your unique vocal style and how he can work with it to make it the best it can be; rather then forcing his own style on you. As a consequence you are able to develop and build on your own style. Stephen observed my weaknesses and worked hard to help me learn to overcome them and become disciplined with my practice. He also observed my strengths and helped me to be more confident. Stephen not only helps you with your vocal technique but teaches performance technique, which was something I was particularly excited about, as all other teachers I’ve had forgot this aspect. He is not just a fantastic teacher but he is also a mentor and a friend - I hope to keep working with him for as long as I perform.

Stephen’s ability as a communicator is second to none. His knowledge of how to get the most out of a voice and to rejuvenate a voice after 8 shows a week is incredible.

I believe the most important requirements one can possess to be a successful singing teacher, are a solid musical background and experience in the field. Stephen Baker can proudly attest to being more than proficient in both, having worked extensively in all avenues of show business. I’ve known Stephen for over 35 years, and have always been impressed with the energy and dedication he brings to whatever the endeavour. Stephen has always been successful, and as a singing teacher, many of our future “stars” will look back and thank him for the guidance he gave them with their careers.

I have known and worked with Stephen Baker, from Sydney Singing Centre, for over 14 years at JMC Academy. Stephen has been in charge of vocal development as Senior Lecturer. I have grown to be a great believer in Stephen and his teaching methods.

Stephen has taken vocal students at JMC to another level with many students gaining confidence in all areas of stagecraft and this has been in evidence on the many performance nights JMC has presented over the last 14 years. I have no hesitation in recommending Stephen at the highest possible level.
